Paweł G latest – prosecution makes mountain from molehill

2013/03/19

19.03.2013 Discounts in his restaurants, free taxi-rides and putting someone up for the night – these were the total sum of allegations made against the well-known Szczecin restauranteur Paweł G, at a court hearing today.

CBA

Poland’s CBA suspect a restaurant of offering a discount to a government official

So far, the case against pan G amounts to the ‘corruption’ of a friend and neighbour (a tax official) by providing him and his wife with discounts for using his restaurants, taxi-rides home, as well as free tickets to watch football matches on a large screen.

In the case of one of pan G’s co-accused, pan T the jeweller, the grave matter of corruption under investigation is the present of a clock to a tax inspector, which had been returned as it was broken.

Was it really necessary for close to a hundred CBA (anti-corruption agency) officers to descend on Szczecin in the small hours of a Sunday morning to investigate such trivial matters?

Is there perhaps more to this case than meets the eye?
