Conflicting reports concerning an English teacher stabbed in Warsaw

2013/12/28

‘The Yorkshire Evening Post’ reports that an English teacher, Steven Johnson from Leeds, is in a critical condition at a Warsaw hospital after being stabbed at a 2013 Christmas party.

According to the article, published on 20 December, he was one of four colleagues who were knifed at a flat party, when several men burst in following complaints about noise.

A Polish friend of Mr Johnson was killed in the attack.

Warsaw police have arrested three men in connection with the incident.

Curiously, there have been no reports of the injuries to the British national in the Polish media.

The incident described in ‘the Yorkshire Post’ may be the same as the one described in the Polish portal onet.pl (and other similar stories on Polish internet sources).  However, the reporting of the attack appears quite different in the Polish media.

In the onet.pl (and other Polish) reports, the men were described as having been drinking on the stairway rather than inside a flat. Furthermore, they report the attack as having occurred outside the block itself.

We wish Mr Johnson a full recovery from his injuries, and offer our condolences to the family of his friend.
