When asked why Cameron had suggested otherwise, Sikorski replied: “Politics. Politicians in the European Union have to say they are looking after their own country’s interests at home.”

Sikorski went on to say that national chauvinism was inevitable within the European Union. Despite this fact, he believed in rational decision making, governed by European law. This meant that benefits should be paid by the country in which the wages were earned on a European-wide scale.

The Polish Foreign  Minister stated that he did not regard Cameron as a populist, explaining that he had to compete against UKIP.

He finished on a positive note,  claiming that ‘temporary difficulties’ would not affect the good relationship between Poland and the United Kingdom. He went on to say: “ We have many common interests, finding gas in shale, the strong position of NATO, being in favor of a free and competitive market. “

Sz-n.com comment: It is worth noting that Radosław Sikorski and David Cameron were both members of the Bullingdon club at Oxford university.
